What?
A Christian Science Summer Camp where you can make friends with other Christian Scientists of your own age from around the world.
Each camper has the fun of choosing from a wide array of activities – 5 a day! Here are a few of the activities offered every summer: Archery, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, soccer, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, tennis, gaga, horse riding, fishing, arts and crafts, dance, drama, rock climbing, photography, cooking, and many more! There are also hymn sings, Sunday School, barbeques, barn dance, campfires and an overnight camping trip in the beautiful mountains surrounding the lake.
What is the CIT program?
The CIT program is both a job training program and an educational experience for 16+ year olds. (Most schools will allow time off for this kind of enrichment experience. You will need to discuss this with your school.) CITs participate in daily classes divided into four key areas: Staff, Camp, Campers, and Program. Topics include working as part of a team, responding to others’ needs, time management, decision making, public speaking, and Christian Science healing. Most importantly, CITs have the daily opportunity to put what is learned into practice in a supportive Christian Science environment. If you are interested in the out-of-doors, working with children, making new friends, and growing in your understanding and application of Christian Science — join us this summer. Make a difference — challenge yourself and others by being part of this year’s class.
Why?
Why not? All young people love to have friends who share the same values and enjoy the opportunity to have fun together and practise Christian Science.
Cost?
We would love campers to feel they can return each year. Families are asked to make a contribution that is comfortable for them. Junior Focus will arrange the balance of funding for the camp and flights.
What to Pack?
An expectation of adventure! CLC provides a basic packing list. The camp will provide bedding, backpacks and specialist equipment for all activities for you. Portable musical instruments are encouraged.
Care at Camp and During the Journey
Responsible adults will accompany campers. On arrival at Newark or JFK Airport, the group will be bussed to the camp. The group will be arriving the night before camp starts. There are two to three counselors in each cabin who will help each camper settle in. There will be a camp mum and a camp dad who act as house parents. And there will be a Christian Science Nurse and a Christian Science Practitioner on duty at all times.
(Parents can stay in touch with life at camp via photos on the CLC SmugMug and by email through the CLC office.)
Accommodation
The girls and boys live in separate camps. Within each camp, you will be staying in a cabin with other children in your age group. There are two to three counselors living in each cabin who are responsible for maintaining an orderly and harmonious living situation for their campers and for making sure the personal needs of each camper are being met. At least one counselor is in the cabin whenever the children are there.
